Mariners Fall in Season Opener to Salem State
SALEM, Mass. - The Salem State Vikings recorded their first win
of the season, defeating Mitchell College (CT), 18-2, in a
non-conference match played this afternoon at Alumni Field.
SSC (1-1) received six goals from junior attackman Justin Jones
(Danvers, Mass.), three goals from sophomore attackman Jon Falls
(Seekonk, Mass.), three goals from freshman attackman Ryan Gendreau
(Danvers, Mass.), two goals from junior attackman Rob Mulroy
(Swampscott, Mass.) and single scoring strikes from senior
midfielder Scott Aronian (Chelmsford, Mass.), sophomore defender
Marshall Jutras (Beverly, Mass.), sophomore attackman Mike MacIver
(Dracut, Mass.), sophomore midfielder Anthony DeLeo (North Reading,
Mass.) and senior midfielder Miek Fitzgerald (Lynn, Mass.)
Mitchell (0-1) received goals from junior attackman Ian Gosselin
(Uncasville, CT) and junior attackman Zach Ledvina (New Bedford,
Mass.). Senior Rick Melanson (Gloucester, Mass.) and freshman
Kyle Tuneburg (Beverly, Mass.) each played a half between the pipes
for the Vikings with Tuneburg having to make just one save.
The Mariners next game will be Saturday, March 14 when they host
Lyndon State at 2:00 pm.
