LAX Duo Sweeps NECC Honors
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College men's lacrosse players were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday morning.
Junior attackman David Klapp was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman defender Maxx Crowley was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Mariners to a 2-0 week and the program's first-ever NECC title.
Klapp led the Mariners with nine goals and one assist for the week. He netted a career-high five goals and added a helper in a 15-2 win over Daniel Webster College that clinched the NECC title. He also scored a team-high four goals in a 10-5 victory at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Crowley anchored a defense that allowed only seven goals over two games and was a part of the man-down unit that killed off 14 of 15 extra-man opportunities for the week. He caused four turnovers and grabbed six ground balls against Daniel Webster and also recorded four caused turnovers and five ground balls at Mount Saint Vincent.
Both Klapp and Crowley have started all 10 games for the Mariners this season. Klapp leads the team in scoring with 22 goals and 11 assists for 33 points. Crowley is tied for the team lead in caused turnovers (19) and has picked up the most ground balls (33) by any defender on the squad.
Mitchell (8-2 overall, 3-0 NECC) will next play at Nichols College on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
