NECC Honors Five From Men's LAX
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Five members of the Mitchell College men's lacrosse program were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday—three of which took top honors—as the league announced its annual awards.
Senior Jordan Cook was named NECC Player of the Year while sophomore JD LeMay was a repeat selection as NECC Goalkeeper of the Year. Freshman Chevy Perry gave the Mariners a sweep of the major player awards as he was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Year.
Cook and LeMay also garnered all-conference status along with junior Maximilian Crowley and senior Tyler Kradas. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.
Cook, a midfielder, was the team's leading goal scorer in conference play with 10 tallies and two assists for 12 points. He played in all 16 games and made eight starts while ranking second on the team in scoring with 32 points on 24 goals and eight assists.
LeMay was solid in goal for the Mariners in his 15 starts despite playing more than half the season with an injury. He went 3-0 in league play and posted a goals-against average of 10.00 while stopping 61 percent of shots on goal. He finished the season with a total of 186 saves and six wins in the cage.
Perry is the third Mitchell newcomer to take home Rookie of the Year honors, joining both Crowley (2013) and LeMay (2014). He started all 16 games on defense for the Mariners and picked up 31 ground balls and forced 13 turnovers. He also scored on the only shot he attempted all season and added a pair of assists.
Crowley, a defender, earned all-conference status for the third time in his career. He started and played in all 16 games and led the Mariners with career highs of 70 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers.
Kradas capped a four-year career with the Mariners with his first all-conference honors. The midfielder played in all 16 games and recorded a career-high 15 goals with one assist. Six of his goals came in league play, including a career-high four in a win over Regis College that clinched the regular season title for the Mariners.
Mitchell (7-9 overall) went undefeated in NECC play for the third straight season. The Mariners were the top seed in the NECC Championship but lost to Becker College by a 12-8 final in the title game.
