LAX Duo Nabs NECC Honors
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's lacrosse team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday as the league announced its weekly awards.
Senior Marcel Quinlan was named NECC Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Joe Schley was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Mariners to a 1-1 record last week, including an overtime victory at Albertus Magnus College.
Quinlan, who nabbed honors for the second time this season, made 33 saves and earned a win in goal last week. He finished with 19 saves in the overtime victory at Albertus Magnus and didn't allow a goal in the final 13:29 of the contest. He also made 14 stops in 45 minutes of action at New England College.
Schley earned honors for the third time this season as he recorded six goals last week. He netted a game-high five goals in the win at Albertus Magnus, including a pair of scores in the final 10:08 of regulation that pulled the Mariners even and forced overtime. He also potted a goal at New England College.
Mitchell (2-4 overall) will next play at Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m.
