Knowles, Messuri Nab NECC Weekly MLAX Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's lacrosse team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.
Senior Desmond Knowles was named NECC Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Aidan Messuri was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. Knowles received the distinction for the first time in his career while Messuri nabbed honors for the third time this season.
Knowles scooped up 15 ground balls and caused three turnovers last week in a pair of games for the Mariners. He also went 24-for-49 at the face-off spot and recorded his second goal of the season against Rivier.
Messuri netted a team-high four goals over the two games. He notched his second hat trick of the season against Albertus Magnus and followed that with a man-up goal against Rivier.
Knowles has started all eight games and leads the team in caused turnovers (16), ground balls (38) and face-off wins (27). In eight games with seven starts, Messuri has netted a team-high 13 goals and ranks second on the team in scoring with 14 points.
Mitchell (1-7 overall) will next host the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Wednesday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m.
