WLAX's Murtha Tabbed NECC Player of the Week
ATTTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Ashley Murtha was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of women's lacrosse, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Murtha netted a team-high 11 goals in two games last week for the Mariners. She notched a season-high seven goals and added 10 draw controls and 12 ground balls in Mitchell's NECC opener at Elms College. She then tallied four goals and four draw controls in a non-conference showdown at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. For the week she went 5-for-6 on free position attempts and put 15 of her 17 shots on goal.
Murtha earns NECC Player of the Week status for the first time in her career. She was a four-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection last season and was named NECC Rookie of the Year at the completion of the season. This year she has started all five games and leads Mitchell in scoring with 20 goals and one assist for 21 points.
Mitchell (0-5, 0-1 NECC) will next host Bay Path University on Monday, April 6 at 4:30 p.m.
