LAX Duo Earns NECC Honors
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College men's lacrosse players were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.
Junior goalie JD LeMay was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman Owen LaPorte was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo led Mitchell to a 1-1 week that included a win over Wheelock College in league play.
LeMay allowed only 5.5 goals per game while playing every minute in the cage. He earned his first career shutout with a 15-save effort in NECC play against Wheelock as Mitchell remained unbeaten in the conference. He also made 18 saves in a loss at Mount Ida College to finish with 33 for the week.
LaPorte, who earned rookie honors for the second time this season (March 7), led the Mariners with six goals and an assist last week. He recorded four goals and a helper in the win over Wheelock to begin the week and added a pair of scores at Mount Ida.
LeMay has started all 10 games in goal and made a total of 145 saves on the season. In league action he sports a goals-against average of 4.67 and holds a 3-0 record. LaPorte has played in 10 games and leads the team in scoring with 26 goals and 11 assists for 37 points. His eight goals and seven assists in NECC play rank as the most in the conference.
Mitchell (4-6 overall, 3-0 NECC) will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Thursday, April 21 at 4 p.m.
