LAX Duo Notches NECC Weekly Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's lacrosse team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday as the league announced its weekly honors.
Freshman John Grieco was named NECC Defensive Player of the Week while classmate John Porcelli was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. Both received the honors for the first time in their careers.
Grieco earned his first collegiate win in goal last week in a 17-0 final at Eastern Nazarene College. He finished with seven saves in the first half and helped the Mariners to their first shutout since 2011.
Porcelli, an attackman, netted a career-high five goals in the win over the Lions. He also caused a pair of turnovers as the Mariners clinched a spot in the upcoming NECC Championship.
Grieco has played in 11 games and made five starts in the cage this season. He holds the lowest goals-against average (12.38) on the team as well as the highest save percentage (.507).
