WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team dropped an 83-56 exhibition contest to the University of Saint Joseph on Friday night at the O'Connell Center.
Newcomer Jaiden Kimbro paced the Mariners with 12 points and added three steals. Jalen Benson netted 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting while Jacob Tully contributed nine points and five rebounds. Max Gayle led the effort on the glass with a team-high seven boards off the bench.
A dozen Blue Jays scored on the night, including a season-high 44 points from the bench. Jordan Powell dropped in a game-high 16 points to go with six boards. Jake Sullivan added a season-best 13 points, in addition to his work on the defensive end.
The Blue Jays, who never trailed, took their first double-digit lead with 11 minutes to go in the first half. The Mariners never made up the difference, shooting just 32 percent (21-for-65) from the floor and 27 percent (6-for-22) from three. USJ led by 16 at the break and didn't let up in the second half, shooting a season-high 53 percent (30-for-57) for the contest.
