Buscetto Named NECC Player of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Mikey Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning. It marks the second time this season that Buscetto has earned Player of the Week honors (1/23).
The senior kept up his hot play this past week, averaging 21 points and 6.5 assists per game, as the Mitchell College men's basketball team won their sixth and seventh consecutive games, victories over Purchase College and New England College. The senior guard shot 47.2% from the floor and also averaged five steals per game for the Mariners.
Buscetto began the week by dominating Purchase College, pacing Mitchell with 20 points and six assists, both team-high figures. He followed this up in a return to conference play on Saturday, finishing with 22 points, seven assists, and steals in a 90-78 win over New England College. Against the Pilgrims, Buscetto shot 52.6% from the floor and also pulled down a pair of rebounds, giving the Mariners the boost they needed to pull away from NEC down the stretch.
Winners of seven straight, the Mariners (17-3 overall, 4-0 NECC) will return to the court on Monday, February 6th, when they host Fitchburg State at 6:00 pm in a non-conference tilt.
