MLAX Duo Land on All-NECC Team
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's lacrosse team earned all-conference status from the New England Collegiate Conference on Thursday as the league announced its annual men's lacrosse honors.
Senior Daniel Simpson (Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) were among 13 players selected to the All-NECC team, Simpson at the defender positions and Gonzalez at the face off slot.
Simpson, a senior captain, anchored the Mariners defense in his final season at Mitchell, finishing with a career-best 29 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in 14 games. In his first season with the Mariners, Gonzalez finished second in the conference with 95 ground balls and was 120-332 from the face off position. The 95 ground balls was second most in a single season in program history, Gonzalez contributed in other areas as well, logging one goal and two assists to go along with 12 caused turnovers.
Ethan Wheeler (Annapolis, M.D.) rounded out Mitchell's award recipients by being named to the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team. The senior goalie played all 14 games in net, finishing with 189 saves on the spring, good for fourth most in a single season in program history. Wheeler wraps up his Mitchell career with 209 saves, also good for fourth all time in program history.
