
MBB Sweeps NECC Weekly Awards
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's basketball team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.
Junior guard Mikey Buscetto was named NECC Player of the Week while sophomore forward Dontae Pollard was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped Mitchell to a 1-1 week that included a win over Albertus Magnus College, the first for the Mariners since the 2006-07 season.
Buscetto, who nabbed the honor for the second time this year (Nov. 15), shot 52 percent and averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game last week in his return to the floor. Against Lehman College he finished with 16 points while shooting 4-for-8 from long range. He then went off for 23 points on 9-for-17 shooting against Albertus Magnus, stuffing the stat sheet with seven boards, six assists and four steals.
Pollard earned the distinction for the first time in his career. He averaged 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last week, with the majority of his production coming against Albertus Magnus. He contributed 14 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in only 14 minutes off the bench against the Falcons.
Buscetto has played in eight games and made seven starts while averaging team highs of 18.8 points and 8.0 assists per game. He currently leads the NECC in assists per game and ranks third in scoring. Pollard has seen action in six contests with two starts and is averaging 7.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Mitchell (4-7 overall) will next host Rhode Island College on Saturday, January 8 at 1 p.m.
