Men's Soccer Blanked at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team
earned a 3-0 victory against in-state rival Mitchell College on
Tuesday afternoon.
The contest was scoreless at the half despite a 10-0 shot advantage
by the Falcons. Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Woodford kept the
Mariners in the game with four saves in the stanza, including a
brilliant stop in the 28th minute of play to preserve the
tie.
The Falcons finally found the back of the net on a give-and-go
finish off the leg of Alphonse Buccitti in the 71st minute for a
1-0 lead. Jamal Howard was credited with an assist on the play.
Mitchell rallied and placed two shots on goal in the final minutes,
but Albertus Magnus goalkeeper Gerald O'Connor made a brilliant
save of his own with just six minutes to play to keep the score
1-0. Two late penalty kicks by Steven Zapata made it a 3-0
final for the Falcons.
Woodford finished with seven saves for Mitchell (1-4 overall) while
O'Connor recorded two for Albertus Magnus (4-2-1 overall).
Mitchell returns home to open its NECC slate against Wheelock
College on Saturday, September 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
