Men's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to Mount Saint Mary

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's soccer team lost a
hard-fought battle against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday
afternoon by a 1-0 final.
The Blue Knights (4-3-1 overall) scored the game's lone goal in the
80th minute off a corner kick, with freshman Ku Lekaj recording his
first career goal on a header. The Mariners (2-5-0 overall)
scrambled to net the equalizer in the final 10 minutes but came up
empty.
Mitchell controlled the pace throughout and had multiple
opportunities to score. The Mariners pressured the defense with 18
shots but could not put one over the goal line. Mount Saint Mary
goalkeepers Patrick McGinnis and Paul Aries combined for the clean
sheet and each made two saves.
With the game scoreless after nearly 80 minutes, the Blue Knights
earned a corner kick and set up their attack. Sophomore Francesco
Marando served the ball from the right corner and put it five yards
in front of the near post. Lekaj got his head on the ball and
placed it in the right corner, just out of the reach of Mitchell
keeper Kevin Woodford. Woodford finished with two saves in the
contest.
Mitchell returns to conference play at Newbury College on Saturday,
October 3 at 12 p.m.
