Four Men's Soccer Players Honored by NECC
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Four members of the Mitchell College men's soccer team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday.
Senior Howie Johnson, junior Zachary Simmons and sophomore Frank Williams were all named to the NECC All-Conference Second Team. Sophomore Ramazan Sinani also garnered all-conference honorable mention status.
All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.
Johnson earned all-conference honors for the second straight season. The four-year letterwinner and team co-captain started every conference game in the back for the Mariners, bolstering a defense that allowed 1.1 goals per game and produced one shutout in league play.
Simmons, a midfielder, made a huge impact in his debut season at Mitchell. He started every conference game and ranked third on the team and ninth in the NECC in scoring with three goals for six points.
Williams cracked the second team forwards in his second season with the Mariners. He led the team and ranked third in the NECC in scoring with four goals and four assists for 12 points. He also tied for the league lead in assists and recorded a point in five of seven conference matches.
Sinani played every minute of all seven NECC matches and logged the most minutes of any conference goalkeeper (667:08). He also ranked third in the league in both goals-against average (1.08) and save percentage (.758) and finished with a 5-2-0 record and one shutout in NECC play.
Mitchell (7-8-0 overall) finished in second place in the NECC standings with a record of 5-2-0. The Mariners qualified for the NECC Championship but were eliminated by Elms College, 3-2 in overtime, in the semifinals.
