Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 at Conn College
Box Score
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Trevor Prophet tallied his first
collegiate hat trick to lead the Connecticut College men's soccer
team (6-2-1 overall) to a 3-0 shutout victory against Mitchell
College (4-7 overall) on Tempel Green Wednesday.
Sophomore Oscar Brown chipped in with two assists for the hosts,
who outshot the Mariners 22-6 in the win. Senior net-minder Alex
Martland and Kyle Rosse combined on the shutout without recording a
save for the Camels. Freshman Dan Valentine had eight stops in
the setback for Mitchell.
The Camels pounced on the Mariners in the opening minute of
regulation. Adam Musoke booted a low cross from 20 yards out across
the box and Prophet redirected the ball with a header that landed
inside the right post. Later on in the 17th minute of action, the
Camels penetrated the Mariner defense in another prime scoring
opportunity. Prophet controlled a ball in front of the goal and fed
Oscar Brown for a low shot that hooked just beyond the left
post.
On the ensuing goal kick, the Mariners threatened with their best
scoring chance of the day. Senior Alex Deltgen served a
25-yard cross near the end line that sailed all the way across the
box to the far post. Howie Johnson elevated for a header but his
shot trickled a foot wide of the goal.
The Camels doubled their lead with 17:22 remaining in the first
stanza when Brown assisted Prophet for his second goal of the day.
In the 65th minute of action, Prophet buried a header off a Brown
cross to complete the hat trick and close out the scoring.
Mitchell will host Lesley University on Saturday, October
17 at 2:00 p.m.
