Woodford Earns ECAC Weekly Honors
CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Mitchell College sophomore Kevin Woodford was
named ECAC Division III New England Co-Defensive Player of the Week
for the sport of men's soccer, as announced by the conference on
Tuesday afternoon.
The announcement came a day after Woodford, a goalkeeper, was
tabbed NECC Player of the Week. He was a key factor last week as
the Mariners clinched a postseason berth in the upcoming NECC
Championship. On the final day of the regular season, he made four
saves at Southern Vermont College to preserve a 1-0 shutout. He
allowed only one goal in 180 minutes and finished with 13 saves for
the week.
Woodford allowed only five goals in conference play during the
regular season and ranked second in the NECC in goals against
average (0.93) against conference opponents. In 14 starts he
finished with three shutouts, 74 saves and an overall goals against
average of 1.44.
Mitchell (5-11-0 overall, 3-4-0 NECC), the fifth seed in the 2009
NECC Championship, will play at fourth-seeded Southern Vermont
College (10-7-1 overall, 3-3-1 NECC) in the quarterfinals on
Wednesday, November 4 at 2 p.m. The winner advances to play
top-seeded Daniel Webster College (10-5-0 overall, 6-1-0 NECC) on
Friday, November 6.
