Men's Soccer Battles Elms to Scoreless Draw
CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College outshot Mitchell College 5-2
in two periods of extra time, but neither team could net the golden
goal as the Blazers and Mariners played to a 0-0 double overtime
tie in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
men's soccer game at Leary Field.
With the tie, Elms moves to 0-9-2 on the season, 0-2-1 in league
action, while Mitchell moves to 4-4-1 on the season, 1-0-1 in NECC
play.
With the score set at 0-0 heading into the first 10 minute overtime
period, Elms forward Chris Silva blasted a shot that Mitchell
goalie Kevin
Woodford made a sliding save on to keep the score knotted
at 0-0 at the 98:00 minute mark. Silva had a second
opportunity with 28 ticks remaining in the stanza, but his header
attempt went over the crossbar setting up a second overtime
frame.
Silva, forward Sean Moylan and midfielder Bryan Davey each fired
shots on net but Woodford was solid between the pipes, holding Elms
scoreless and preserving the tie.
Woodford finished with 12 saves in the game, while Blazers'
goalkeeper Jonathan Coyne provided a stellar performance,
collecting six saves in the contest .
Elms outshot Mitchell 25-14 in the game with 20 of those shots
coming in regulation (13 in the second half). Silva finished with
four shots on target, while Davey and senior defender Sam
Senecal.

Burkart each tallied two shots for the Mariners.
Mitchell returns to the pitch against Daniel Webster College on
Saturday, October 9 at noon.
