Men's Soccer Pushes Past Daniel Webster
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team
came away with a 2-1 victory against NECC rival Daniel Webster
College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Mitchell (5-4-1 overall, 2-0-1 NECC) remained undefeated in
conference play thanks to a second half goal from senior Will
Frohnhoefer, which snapped a 1-1 deadlock in the 57th minute.
The goal was his first of the season.
The Mariners got on the scoreboard first in the 28th minute when
junior James
Gleason found the back of the net from 15 yards out on an
unassisted effort. Mitchell looked to take the lead into the
halftime break, but Daniel Webster evened the score with 1:58 to go
before intermission on the foot of Alex Jackson. He finished off a
pass from Paul Hoy and netted his team-leading sixth goal of the
season.
Frohnhoefer's goal came off a feed from senior Christopher
Rapuano. His shot skipped low and found its way past goalkeeper
Joe Keene to put the Mariners in front. Junior goalkeeper Kevin Woodford
made the margin stand for Mitchell, finishing with five saves to
record his fifth win of the season.
Daniel Webster (4-4-1 overall, 1-2-0 NECC) held an 8-6 edge in
shots and an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Mitchell will next host Connecticut College on Tuesday, October 12
at 4 p.m.
