Men's Soccer Downs Newbury, 2-1
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Mitchell College senior Jaime Serrano
scored a pair of goals as the men's soccer team picked up a 2-1
victory over Newbury College in the first game of Sunday
afternoon's men's/women's doubleheader.
Serrano put Mitchell (6-5-1 overall, 3-0-1 NECC) on the
scoreboard in the 18th minute, beating the defense on a
give-and-go from junior Tommy
Derosier. It remained a one-goal game throughout the
rest of the first half.
Serrano added an insurance goal, which ultimately proved to be the
game-winner, in the 50th minute of the contest. Junior Dustin
Huguenin found Serrano in traffic to give the Mariners the 2-0
advantage. Serrano now leads the team in scoring with six goals on
the season.
Newbury's Ibukunoluwa Adeleke broke up the shutout with a full
field cross from the right from Shaundize Moosavizadeh in the 58th
minute of the contest. Goalkeeper William McNally had a solid day
in goal for the Nighthawks (3-9-0 overall, 2-2-0 NECC) recording 10
saves.
Mitchell will next host CCNY on Wednesday, October 20 at 3:30
p.m.
