ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Zachary Simmons was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week for the sport of men's soccer, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Simmons netted his first career hat trick in a 4-1 victory over Southern Vermont College last week. The Mitchell captain scored once in the first half and added two more in the second to help the Mariners remain unbeaten in NECC play.
It also marked the third straight week that a Mitchell player has earned the award. Frank Williams was honored on September 23 while Ramazan Sinani was recognized on September 30.
Simmons, a midfielder, has started and played in all 11 games this season and ranks fourth in the NECC in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points. All four of his goals have come in conference play, including a game winner against Elms on September 28.
Mitchell (5-6-0 overall, 3-0-0 NECC) will next host 22nd-ranked Gordon College on Monday, October 7 at 4 p.m.
