Iglesias Named Second Team All-Independent as Sophomore
NEW LONDON, CONN.---Mitchell College Women's Basketball announce sophomore guard Jennifer Iglesias (Waterbury, Conn./Sacred Heart) was named to the 2008 All-Independent Second Team announced late last week by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).
Iglesias finished the 2008 season with 446 total points (second in AD3I) for 19.4 points per game (23 games). She sunk 51 shots from behind the arc and hit just under 55% from the free throw line. She tallied 56 rebounds this season, 98 assists and 27 steals for the Pequots.
Head Coach Cas Grygorcewicz had this to say about Iglesias honor, "I believe Jen came into her own this year as the team leader and, only as a sophomore. She quickly became the main focus of the teams we played, usually being the best player on the court. Jen is a thrill to watch with her graceful play as she dissects her opponent game after game. A prolific scorer and passer who can beat most players off the dribble; Jen was an ideal point guard for us. She makes her teammates better and is the sounding board of the team. A most trustful student-athlete!"
The All-Independent Women's Basketball teams were selected by the women's basketball coaches from member schools of the Association of Division III Independents.
