Women's Soccer Falls Short at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's soccer team lost a
non-conference match-up at Coast Guard on Wednesday afternoon by a
2-1 final.
Coast Guard senior Katie Kurek and sophomore Erin Nolan each scored
goals, both of which were assisted by sophomore Shannah
Shelton. Sophomore Nikki Hoxie scored for Mitchell, her
team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Kurek opened the scoring 18:23 into the match, her team-leading
seventh goal of the season. Just over two minutes later Nolan
tallied her first goal of the season for a 2-0 lead.
Hoxie scored in the 23rd minute to cut the Coast Guard lead in
half, but that would be all the scoring in the game. The Bears beat
Mitchell for the second straight season in the second all-time
meeting between the two schools.
Coast Guard (2-4 overall) outshot Mitchell 19-10 and sophomore Mary
Mills made six saves to pick up the win in goal for the Bears.
Sophomore Brittany O'Neil made two saves in the first half for
Mitchell (0-5 overall) while junior Morgan Lindsey had eight saves
in the second half.
Mitchell will next host Albertus Magnus on Monday, September 21 at
4 p.m.
