NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team
scored a pair of goals in each half of a 4-0 victory over NECC foe
Daniel Webster College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Junior Nikki
Hoxie scored two goals to lead the Mitchell attack. The
Mariners (5-5-0 overall, 3-0-0 NECC) remained unbeaten in
conference play and have won three of their last four games.
Junior co-captain Angie Smith got
things started for the Mariners in the 19th minute with her second
goal of the season. Hoxie tacked on the game's second goal just
over a minute later on an unassisted effort to give Mitchell a
two-goal lead to take into the halftime break.
Mitchell didn't score again until senior co-captain Paige Ehnot
found freshman Caley McClendon
in the 79th minute for her team-leading seventh score of the
season. Hoxie closed out the scoring by converting a penalty kick
in the 84th minute for her fifth goal of the year.
Mitchell held a 9-3 advantage in shots and forced Eagles'
goalkeeper Amy Waller to make three saves. Freshman goalkeeper Kaylee
Woodford recorded two saves to earn her third shutout of the
season for the Mariners.
