Rubino Nets NECC Player of the Week Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Mason Rubino was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's soccer, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Rubino scored a pair of goals last week to lead Mitchell to a win and a tie in the final two games of the regular season. The veteran forward netted the game-tying goal late in the second half as the Mariners took a point off league-leading Eastern Nazarene College. He also scored in the opening minutes of a 4-2 victory over Lesley University, giving Mitchell its first win of the season.
Rubino earned the honor for the first time in his career. He is the third Mitchell player to receive the award this season, joining teammates Nolan Clack and Joey Rosa.
Rubino has played in 15 games and made 14 starts in his final season with the Mariners. He currently ranks second on the team in scoring with three goals and an assist for seven points.
Mitchell (1-11-4 overall, 1-2-3 NECC) secured the third seed for the 2021 NECC Men's Soccer Championship. The Mariners will play at second-seeded New England College in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m.
