Mitchell Women Win Eighth in a Row and Defeat Bay Path College, 64-44
NEW LONDON, CONN.-- Freshman guard Bianca Young (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored 21 points as Mitchell picked up their eighth consecutive win defeating Bay Path College 64-44 on Tuesday evening at the Yarnall Athletic Center. Jen Iglesias (Waterbury, Conn.) chipped in with 13 points and eight assists in the win.
Mitchell dominated the first 20 minutes of play forcing the Wildcats into 21 turnovers. Iglesias scored all of her 13 points in the first half to pace the Mariners, and Brittany Smyth (Winsted, Conn.) had eight steals.
Destiney Harris (Bristol, Conn.), who was named NECC Rookie of the Week earlier today, just missed a double-double finishing with 11 points and nine boards.
The Wildcats were led by Jessica Hunt (Madison,
Conn.) with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and teammate
Kathleen Rodrigue (W. Stewartstown, N.H.) netted
13 points and pulled down 11 boards in the loss.
The win is the eighth in a row for the Mariners, and they are now
14-9 overall and 12-2 in NECC play. Mitchell returns to
action on Saturday, February 21st when they travel to
Wheelock College for a 12:00 pm tip-off.
