Mariners Dominate Hawks in Womens Hoops Action
NEW LONDON, CONN. - The Mitchell College women's basketball team proved too much for Becker College in a Valentine's Day clash of NECC teams, and they prevailed by a 85-50 margin. The Mariners came out strong jumping out to a 20 point lead in the first half, led by Destiney Harris (Bristol, Conn.) with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Becker struggled offensively shooting just 30% from the field for the game. Mitchell placed eight players in the scoring column led by Jen Iglesias (Waterbury, Conn.) (24), Tania Gee (West Haven, Conn.) (15), and Allison Peck (Colchester, Conn.) (14) along with Harris's 16 points and 16 boards.
The Hawks were led by Beth Pion (Enfield, Conn.)with 19 points, while Rachel Pinak (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) chipped in with 10.
The win is the sixth in a row for the Mariners, and they are now 12-9 overall and 11-2 in NECC play. The loss drops Becker to 11-12 and 7-7 (NECC). Mitchell returns to action on Monday, February 16th when they host the Coast Guard Academy at 6:00 pm.
