Women's Soccer Wins OT Thriller at Wheelock

BOSTON - The Mitchell College women's soccer team needed extra time
to defeat Wheelock College by a 3-2 final on Tuesday night.
Sophomore Nikki Hoxie netted the game-winning goal just over 5:30
into the overtime period to give Mitchell (2-7 overall, 2-1 NECC)
its second conference victory of the season. Freshman Malorie
Klieber and sophomore Leslie Briggs also scored goals for the
Mariners, who earned their first road victory of the season.
Wheelock dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Mitchell fell behind twice in the match but rallied back each time.
Wheelock's Lindsey Lacourse got things started with a goal in the
41st minute, but Klieber answered just over a minute later with her
first tally of the season.
After the halftime break, Wheelock went back on top thanks to a
goal by Nicole French in the 52nd minute. Briggs brought the
Mariners back in the 71st minute with her second goal of the
season, and neither team was able to score for the remainder of
regulation.
Hoxie, who assisted on the goal by Briggs, picked up one for
herself in the 96th minute to end it. She now leads the team with
six goals on the season.
Mitchell dominated the game in shots (26-6) and shots on goal
(16-4). Sophomores Brittany O'Neil (two saves) and Rachel
Cunningham split time in goal for the Mariners while Allie Chiesa
made 13 saves for the Wildcats.
Mitchell returns to the pitch on Monday, October 12 at home against
Newbury College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
