
Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 at Elms

CHICOPEE, MA - Elms College picked up a 3-0 victory over Mitchell
College in Wednesday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference
(NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.
Senior Krystyna Gagne netted two goals to propel the Blazers
to the win. Elms extended its winning streak to five games and
improved to 9-7-1 on the season, 6-1 in league play. The win also
secured the second seed and a first round bye in the 2009
NECC Championship. Mitchell dropped to 5-10-0
overall and 5-2-0 in conference action.
After a scoreless first period, the Blazers scored three goals in a
span of seven minutes to secure the victory. Sophomore Jen
Killion corralled a booming pass from senior Serina Percoski,
and drilled the ball into the back of the net for what would prove
to be the game-winner in the 65th minute of the contest.
Gagne extended the Elms lead to 2-0 in the 68th minute with her
14th goal of the season. She then delivered her second goal of the
game at the 71:32 mark when she broke away from the Mariners'
defense and caught sophomore keeper Rachel Cunningham
off-guard, launching the ball into the far right corner of the
goal.
Gagne and Killion paced the Blazers' offensive effort, tallying
eight and five shots respectively. Eight other Elms players
recorded shots as the Blazers out-shot the Mariners 22-6 on the
afternoon.
Elms freshman net-minder Molly Corse recorded three saves to
highlight her sixth shutout of the season. Cunningham finished with
eight saves for Mitchell.
Mitchell, which has already clinched a berth in the NECC
Championship, will close out the regular season at Daniel Webster
College on Saturday, October 31 at 2:30 p.m. The Mariners will be
the third seed in the NECC Championship and will host the
sixth seed (TBD) on Tuesday, November 3.
