Corrigan Receives 2020 Coaches Award
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Mitchell College senior Hannah Corrigan was selected as the recipient of the 2020 Coaches Award, as announced by the Department of Athletics on Monday afternoon during its virtual awards ceremony.
The Coaches Award is awarded to the person who contributes most to the varsity athletics program by helping to promote excellence in all varsity sports. This person can be a student athlete, intern, team manager, or anyone associated with varsity sports.
Corrigan is a two-sport athlete who has served as a leader both on and off the fields. A three-year letterwinner in women's soccer and lacrosse, she has started nearly every game of her collegiate career, and as a junior she was named a team captain for both squads. In 2018 she represented the Mariners at the NCAA Convention in Indianapolis, and last year she was elected co-president of the Mitchell Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Before the start of the current academic year, she was also elected president of the New England Collegiate Conference SAAC, becoming the first Mitchell student-athlete to hold the position.
The 2020 Mitchell Athletics Banquet was canceled in May due to COVID-19. While the original goal was to reschedule the event before the end of the year, the decision was made to shift the award ceremony to a virtual setting for the safety of all involved. All award recipients were determined by a vote of the coaches and staff in the department.
