Women's Soccer Pair Sweeps NECC Weekly Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College women's soccer players were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday morning.
Freshman Gemma Landry was named NECC Player of the week while sophomore Jessica Krupnikoff was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo led the Mariners to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College last week.
Landry, a two-time rookie of the week selection this season, nabbed player of the week honors for the first time. She is also the second Mitchell player to receive the award this season, joining teammate Elon Johnson. Krupnikoff, who earned honors for the first time in her career, is the fourth Mariner to garner rookie of the week status this season.
Landry was a dual threat in the 2-1 win over ENC. She scored a goal on a penalty kick in the first half while playing in the field, and in the second half she moved into goal and made eight saves to secure the win.
Krupnikoff netted her first career goal last week against the Lions. The tally, which came in the opening minute of the second half, went down as the game winner.
Mitchell (5-8-2 overall, 1-1-1 NECC) ended the regular season with the program's most wins since 2011. The Mariners, who will be the third seed in the 2021 NECC Women's Soccer Championship, will play at second-seeded New England College in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 3 at 4:30 p.m.
