Men's Tennis Sweeps Wheelock
WATERFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College men’s tennis
team took home a 9-0 victory over Wheelock College on Tuesday
afternoon at Leary Park.
Mitchell (6-0 overall, 4-0 NECC) swept through doubles play and
then carried that momentum into singles action, winning every match
in straight sets. Wheelock dropped to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in
conference play.
Sophomore Kyle Carmona topped Wilson Chang at No. 1 singles by a
6-2, 6-0 margin. He also teamed with freshman Rocco
Devona to defeat Chang and Robert Venning at No. 1 doubles by
an 8-2 final.
Sophomore Tyler Engleberg took down Venning at No. 2
singles by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Senior Chris
White dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 decision against
Kevin Kareckas at No. 4, while Devona, junior Adam
Samuels and freshman Alamin
Ripon each cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories at Nos. 3, 5 and 6,
respectively.
Mitchell returns to action in a non-conference match-up at Albertus
Magnus College on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
