Men's Tennis Blanks Wheelock 9-0
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 9-0 victory over Wheelock College on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Courts.
The Mariners (7-5 overall, 6-4 NECC) cruised to victory by winning four matches on the court. Wheelock (0-11 overall, 0-9 NECC), with only three players, was forced to forfeit the other five matches.
The duo of Chris McKeon and Michael Hartley earned an 8-0 victory over Rosie Camara and Sunshine Shearer in the only doubles match of the day.
In singles action, seniors Timothy Atkinson and Kyle Scalley didn't drop a game in straight set victories over Camara and Lexi Seder, respectively. Junior Randy Coons also picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Shearer to complete the sweep.
Mitchell has qualified for the 2013 NECC Championship and will next play in the semifinals on Wednesday, April 24. The NECC will announce seedings and match times after all regular season contests have been completed this weekend.
Prior to the match, the Mariners honored seniors Ayal Gruber, Scalley, Atkinson and Rocco Devona.
