Men's Tennis Clinches Championship Against Newbury
MYSTIC, Conn. – The Mitchell College men’s tennis
clinched its second straight NECC Championship on Thursday
afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Newbury College in a match that
was moved to Mystic Indoor Tennis due to rain.
The Mariners improved to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in NECC play. The
conference title is determined solely through regular season play.
Newbury dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-5 in the NECC.
Mitchell swept through the doubles before taking all six singles
matches in straight sets. Sophomore Kyle
Carmona defeated Nicholas Sehovich 6-0, 6-1 at the top spot
while senior Chris White triumphed 6-2, 6-1 over Matt
Talamantes at No. 4. Junior Adam
Samuels won 6-0, 6-2 over Mike Foley at No. 5 while freshman Rocco
Devona, sophomore Tyler
Engleberg and freshman Alamin
Ripon each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 2, 3 and 6
spots, respectively.
Mitchell returns to action at Wheelock College on Saturday at noon.
