Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win vs. Albertus Magnus
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon by a 7-2 final over Albertus Magnus College.
The Mariners won two out of three doubles matches before losing at only one singles spot to clinch the win. Senior Rocco Devona won at both No. 1 singles and doubles to lead the Mariners.
Newcomers Zachary Simmons and Graham Cavanaugh also picked up a pair of points. Simmons won at No. 2 singles in the only match that went to a third set, and he paired with Randy Coons to win at No. 2 doubles. Cavanaugh was victorious at No. 3 singles and teamed with Devona at the top doubles spot. Senior Timothy Atkinson and sophomore Chris McKeon also picked up singles wins at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
The Mariners also gave first-year head coach Damian Houlden the first men's tennis victory of his career.
Mitchell will open conference play at Lesley University on Friday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m.
