Men's Tennis Loses 5-4 at Becker
LEICESTER, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's tennis team dropped its third straight conference match with a 5-4 loss at Becker College on Saturday afternoon.
David Graham had impressive wins in both singles and doubles to lead the Hawks (2-2 overall, 2-2 NECC). Graham was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles and also teamed with Viktor Tuurala to win at No. 2 doubles by an 8-6 final. Tuurala won at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-2) over Randy Coons while Troy Scott won a thriller at No. 1 singles (7-5, 6-2) against freshman Graham Cavanaugh.
Mitchell junior Zachary Simmons won at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0) and and also teamed with Cavanaugh for victory at No. 1 doubles (8-4). The Mariners also picked up points at No. 4 singles thanks to Timothy Atkinson and No. 3 doubles from the duo of Chris McKeon and Kyle Scalley.
For the second straight match, the Mariners played without their top singles and double player in Rocco Devona (illness).
Mitchell will look to get back on the winning track when it next hosts Newbury College on Tuesday, April 9 at 3 p.m.
