Men's Tennis Falls to Post
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 final to visiting Post University on Wednesday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Courts.
The Eagles (2-7 overall) started the match by taking two of the three doubles points. Markeese Mcleod and Alamin Ripon won at the No. 2 spot by a score of 8-6 while the team of Mark Risbridger and Michael MacDonald won 8-5 at No. 3. Sophomore Rocco Devona and junior Tyler Engleberg picked up the lone doubles point for the Mariners with an 8-3 victory at the top position.
Post sealed the victory by winning three of the six singles matches. Caio Rodriguez handed Devona his first collegiate loss at the No. 1 spot in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Ripon was also victorious at No. 3 against senior Adam Samuels.
Mitchell (2-2 overall) got a strong performance from Engleberg at No. 2 singles, as he remained unbeaten on the season by blanking Mcleod (6-0, 6-0). Juniors Andrew Small and Alexander Fusco each earned victories at the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively. Fusco triumphed over MacDonald (6-2, 6-1) while Small took down Risbridger in a super tiebreaker (6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7)).
Mitchell will next host Johnson & Wales University on Thursday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m. Post returns to action at Caldwell College on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.
