Men's Tennis Rebounds Against JWU
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's tennis team got back on the winning track on Thursday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Johnson & Wales University at the Mitchell College Tennis Courts.
The Mariners (3-2 overall) swept all nine matches and dropped only one set on the day. Junior Kyle Carmona made his season debut and picked up where he left off from last season, winning at both No. 1 singles and doubles to pace the squad.
Sophomore Rocco Devona roared back after dropping the first set at No. 2 singles to post a win over Nicholas Simon (3-6, 6-1, 6-0). He also partnered with Carmona to defeat the top doubles team of Simon and John Sepowitz (8-1).
Junior Tyler Engleberg, senior Adam Samuels and junior Andrew Small all breezed through their singles matches at No. 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Junior Alexander Fusco earned the final singles point at the No. 6 position in a battle with Sepowitz (6-2, 7-5).
Mitchell returns to conference play at Becker College on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.
