Men's Tennis Blanks Albertus Magnus 9-0
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's tennis team shut down Albertus Magnus College by a final of 9-0 on Monday afternoon.
Mitchell breezed through the doubles matches and then swept the singles portion as well. The Mariners improved to 2-0 on the season and have yet to lose an individual match.
Sophomore Rocco Devona led Mitchell with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tim Gabbard at No. 1 singles while junior Tyler Engleberg picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over James Economopoulos at the No. 2 spot. The two also combined to win by an 8-1 final at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Adam Samuels and junior Andrew Small had little trouble picking up points at No. 3 and 4, respectively, as neither dropped a game in posting 6-0, 6-0 wins. Junior Alexander Fusco defeated Nam Dy (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 while freshman Matthew Markavage rounded out the singles lineup with a win over Zach Dugas (6-1, 6-2) at No. 6.
Samuels and Small teamed up to post an 8-1 win over the team of Lora and Dugas at No. 2 doubles. Fusco and senior Will Frohnhoefer (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) combined for a 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Mitchell will next host Post University on Thursday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m.
