Men's Tennis Takes Care of Lesley 8-1
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Mitchell College men’s tennis
team defeated NECC foe Lesley University by an 8-1 final on Sunday
afternoon.
Mitchell (7-0 overall, 5-0 NECC) started the day by winning two of
three doubles matches. Sophomore Kyle
Carmona and freshman Rocco
Devona earned an 8-0 victory at the No. 1 position while
sophomore Tyler Engleberg and sophomore Alex
Fusco picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3.
The Mariners put the match away by taking all six singles points.
Carmona defeated David Newton (6-1, 7-5) at No. 1 while Devona took
care of Nick Mattox (6-1, 6-1) at No. 2. Engleberg got quite a
match from Alex Zhitnik at No. 3 but came away a winner (7-6, 6-4),
and senior Chris White needed a third set to defeat Scott
Wheeler (6-2, 1-6, 6-1). Junior Adam
Samuels and freshman Alamin
Ripon wrapped things up with victories at No. 5 (6-1, 7-5) and
No. 6 (7-5, 7-5), respectively.
Mitchell returns to action at Becker College on Tuesday, April 20.
