Men's Soccer Falls at Becker
LEICESTER, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team dropped its regular season finale by a 3-0 final on Saturday afternoon at Becker College.
Aldo Karkanjozi scored two goals and added an assist as Becker leapfrogged Mitchell in the NECC standings. The Hawks (10-7-1 overall, 5-2-0 NECC) vaulted into a tie for second place while the Mariners (7-7-2 overall, 4-2-1 NECC) ended the year in fourth.
Becker got on board just 11 minutes into the action when Karkanjozi drove down the right wing and shot across the goal into the left corner past Mitchell goaltender Kevin Woodford. Becker doubled the lead at the 49th minute with a cross from Karkanjozi on the right wing to an open Tim Howard, who buried it into the back of an open net for a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks' final goal of the day came when Karkanjozi flew down the left wing and faked a pass across the net before firing it inside the left post.
Goaltender Tim McDonald made three saves in the shutout while Woodford had four saves in the loss.
Mitchell will be the fourth seed in the 2010 NECC Championship. The Mariners have earned a home game for the quarterfinals and will host Southern Vermont College on Wednesday, November 3 at 2 p.m.
