Harris Named NECC Rookie of the Week in Womens Hoops
NEW LONDON, CONN. - Mitchell College freshman center Destiney Harris (Bristol, Conn.) averaged 18.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game taking the Mariners to a weekly 3-0 NECC sweep. She notched 17 points and 12 boards in an 85-55 win over Southern Vermont, while scoring a week-high 22 points in an 85-69 victory over Newbury. In the Mariners final game, Harris hit 16 points and 16 rebounds with an 85-50 win over Becker. Over the three-game span, Harris shot 52% (22-for-43) from the field and 69% (11-for-16) from the charity stripe.
Harris is averaging an impressive 12.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Mariners, who are (11-2) in conference play at this point in the season. She also has 38 steals, and is shooting 46% from the field and 68% from the free throw line. This is the fourth time this season that Harris has been named the NECC's Rookie of the Week.
